Why I Made a Printer-Friendly Quickstart
I generally don’t print things as 95% of my tables happen online. I don’t own a printer, so if I’d want to have things on paper I should ask a favor or pay for a service. So for Fiendgazer, I didn’t even think about this.
Then I went to introduce the game at a convention, and realized a printer-friendly version matters.
There is the real world problem of usability at the table. Many players don’t want to burn through color ink obviously. But even if they do, legibility might become an issue. Minimal design means clearer text in low-light gaming rooms or when printed on less-than-perfect home printers.
But for me, prep flexibility occurred as the most important thing as I only want to print reference sheets (aka. Quickstart). Oh and now I remember photocopying beautiful full-color books in the old times… And then there is note-taking. Furthermore, how could I forget about traveling with hefty hardcovers back then instead of lightweight printouts.
I should also consider screen-reader compatibility, but that’s not top problem perhaps. Printer-friendly layouts (simple structure, no background images) are still easier to parse for assistive tech.
So I hope this printer-friendly Quickstart gives you a feel of a bonus tool, but honestly it’s a debt paid. Enjoy.
